- Open a portrait in which you want to add the effect.
- Duplicate the background layer with CMD/CTRL-J.
- Sharpen the picture using ENHANCE then UNSHARP MASK. In Photoshop use FILTER then SHARPEN, UNSHARP MASK.
- Adjust sharpening to AMOUNT 100% and RADIUS 1.4.
- Increase the saturation by using ENHANCE, ADJUST COLOR then ADJUST HUE/SATURATION.
- Adjust SATURATION slider to your liking or about +11=+12.
- Add a layer mask by clicking on the LAYER MASK ICON in the layers palette.
- Select black in the foreground palette.
- Fill the mask with black by using EDIT then FILL LAYER with black.
- Select whit in the foreground palette.
- Choose a soft paintbrush.
- Adjust the size of the brush using the [ ] keys.
- Paint around the eyes and lips.
- Adjust the opacity of LAYER 1 to your liking.
